An anthropologist and human ecologist. He has taught in Poona University and Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. He has carried out extensive research on anthropological and ecological dimensions of tribes, nomads and village communities of the country. He is a fellow of the Indian National Science academy and Indian Academy of sciences and was President of the Indian Society Of Human Genetics.

HoldonIndia’s objective is to enshrine through digital media, India’s rituals and practices that provide the roadmap for living holistically in harmony with nature. Today these values are influencing global behaviour change towards personal, social and environmental well-being - yoga, meditation, collective responsibility, shared value… ideas long embraced within the Indian way of living, once again paving the way for rethinking and reshaping societies to tackle the massive threat of today’s social and environmental crises.

...Today India faces the onslaught of pressures that are fast replacing its salient values of contentment with the culture of consumption. Before our landscapes become littered with landfills of toxic waste, our forests become deserted, our air becomes unbreathable and our health is compromised, we must connect with our cultural wisdom to guide us to conserving our rich cultural and ecological heritage.
If we plug back into our collective wisdom and listen deeply to how we used to live, to what we used to value, we will discover that contentment and respect for nature are in our cultural DNA. Only by re-embracing these values can we hope to regain a healthy relationship with nature and enable truly sustainable growth.
